Letter to Green Party councillors: You can’t be anti-racist and a Zionist

As the establishment tries to whip up a frenzy, now is a time for anti-Zionist Greens to stand firm.

We suggest all supporters of Palestine should send the following letter of support to the Green Party councillors who supported the recent motion ‘Zionism is racism’, and who are now facing huge backlash from Britain’s political and media establishment.

Dear Green councillors

Each of you is named in the Green Party’s printed lists of supporters of the motion declaring that Zionism is racism, which was passed by your party conference on 4 October 2026.

I wish to congratulate you on your firm and principled stand.

Of course, Zionism is a form of supremacism. An ideology of a settler-colonial movement that has been in the process of committing a genocide in Palestine and waging war on its neighbours for 80-100 years. Certainly since the founding of the state of Israel in 1948.

Jews do not have “the right to self-determination in a homeland of their own” just because they are Jews, any more than Christians, Muslims, Hindus or Sikhs do, because religions are not nations. And Palestine is not ‘their own’ – it belongs to the people and nation of Palestine.

If people identifying as Zionists are uncomfortable with being branded racists, they should give up their settler-colonial supremacist ideology – not blame their victims. You can’t be antiracist and a Zionist, full stop.

Since the vote, the Campaign Against Antisemitism (a racist, Zionist campaigning organisation dedicated to the persecution of Palestinians and all supporters of Palestine) has referred the Green Party to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) over the motion. And Israel has issued a ‘religious edict’ banning the leader of a British political party, who is also Jewish, Zack Polanski, from entering occupied Palestine.

This shows the aggressive nature of the supremacists – and is no different in essence to their routine treatment of exiled Palestinians seeking to return home.

Israel and Zionism are fully supported by the mainstream parties in Britain, by the media and business establishment, precisely because they are all linked to the looting of Middle-eastern resources and are therefore complicit, with Israel, in the genocide. That is why they are so vociferous and rabid in their baying after you, your Party and leader.

It is telling that Labour Party MPs, Zionist to a man, have also reported the Greens, including yourselves, to the police. That is apparently the manner in which they feel British democracy should operate for those who use their political voice to say something that our powerful capitalist class opposes.

They (Israel, the British Zionists, the Labour Party, the police et al) have used the IHRA definition of antisemitism to make this and a thousand other cases – apparently from a position of ‘moral strength’. It is nothing of the sort. It is now more important than ever that we should expose and oppose the IHRA ‘working definition of antisemitism’, which conflates anti-Zionism with racism and which is being used to ‘criminalise’ support for Palestine.

Please stand firm in your resolution and principled opposition to Zionism. Please support and make known the legal challenge to the IHRA definition upon which this witch-hunt is relying.

The Zionists are campaigning among your fellow councillors to undermine your campaign and your party’s adopted position. To this end they have published a list entitled “Where every Green councillor stands” at zionismisnotracism.co.uk/the-partys-over.

Do not succumb to this pressure. You are right and this truth reflects the true cause not only of Palestine but of all humanity.
